Gee that’s unusual!?!?!?!!!
When you find yourself in a situation like the one above it’s not really a lot of fun. Although it seems impossible to get into this sort of situation, it is actually easier than you think. A common occurrence for this is an autopilot failure at cruise flight that goes undetected, or a pilot hand flying in cruise flight in IMC and letting their attention drift away to a passenger or perhaps the GPS for a few moments, then looking back to realize the instruments indicate something very different than straight and level flight.
This is why we practice unusual attitudes on every IPC.
In this lesson, we’ll cover the basics of unusual attitudes with an instructor (since it may have been a little while since you’ve practiced these). We’ll also cover what happens when you perform an unusual attitude recovery incorrectly (such as you might do when reacting quickly in IMC).
